Talks, tours, and workshops

Our series of Talks are inspired by the stories of Pitzhanger Manor and our exhibition programme. Enjoy a welcome drink from 6.45pm; talks take place from 7.30-8.15pm.
£10/ £6.50 concessions. Members go free.

Wednesday, 23 May
Chinese Wallpaper expert and National Trust curator Emile de Bruijn discusses the restored hand-painted wallpaper in The Upper Drawing Room and the role of Chinese art and design in Britain during Soane’s time.

Thursday, 20 June
Harbinder Singh Bird, Partner at Hawkins/Brown Architects discusses the design of the Crossrail stations like Tottenham Court Road and the integration of conceptual art.

Wednesday, 10 July
Both Sir John Soane and Anish Kapoor stretch space using mirrors and light. Artist and art historian Aliki Braine explores the mirror in art and mythology of the past and present.

Curator John Leslie will be giving spotlight tours of Anish Kapoor at Pitzhanger.

Wallpaper Painting masterclass with Alasdair Peebles

Join master decorative painter Alaisdair Peebles and learn to paint Chinoiserie wallpaper based on historic designs. He reveals the painting techniques he used to restore the walls of Pitzhanger Manor to their former glory.

The Art of Hand Paper Marbling

Join tutor Royston Hayward on this hand marbling paper workshop to create stunning traditional patterns inspired by Soane’s idiosyncratic decor. This one-day course covers the basics of traditional paper marbling with carrageen moss size, as well as Japanese Suminagashi and Ebru art.

Upcycled Easter Baskets & Disco Eggs

Get crafty with recycled materials and create a bold and bright Easter basket or sparkly disco egg. You can take your masterpiece home or display it in the manor.

Chocolate Easter Egg Workshop

Learn the art of chocolate egg making and create your own with local chocolatier Lucy Savage from Made in Ealing. This workshop is for children and their adults.

John and Eliza Soane invite you and your favourite teddy to tea! Make-up your own recipes, decorate your plate and cup and share stories around the table. Dressing up is encouraged for teddies and their children.


Little Builders: The Great Materials Hunt

Join us for our very first ‘Little Builders’ creative play sessions for under 5s and their adults. We’ll be exploring materials and textures, shapes and colours before making collages.

Mystical Mirrors and Stories

Free in the Libraries

Take a trip inside a magical mirror in this interactive, story-telling session. Based on the exhibition ‘Anish Kapoor at Pitzhanger Gallery’ this workshop uses famous paintings, poems and contemporary art to spark children’s imaginations. You’ll also have the chance to create your own story using our very special mirror as inspiration.
